Philharmonia Orchestra - behind timpanisA programme of romance and ceremony that celebrates all that is great about Britain, from the sonorous romance of Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet, to the heart-filled patriotism of Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance. The theme of Britishness is brought up to date with the world premiere of Andrew Gant's A British Symphony. The work is a unified symphony, which interlinks separate strands of the traditional music that symbolises the different regions of the British Isles. Around the whole symphony lies the lead character in so many British folk songs and stories, and the common experience of the British peoples - the sea. A British Symphony celebrates a unified nation that is contemporary Britain.
