Tippett Fantasia Concertante on a Theme of Corelli 20’

The Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis is one of Vaughan Williams’ most popular works, and we celebrate his 150th anniversary by returning to the site of its 1910 Three Choirs premiere. This atmospheric concert celebrates the fantasia form with the virtuosic brilliance of the Sainsbury Royal Academy Soloists and their director and violinist Clio Gould. Fellows from the Academy will be working with the Gloucestershire Academy of Music senior strings group in September to prepare a performance of one of Corelli’s vivacious Concerto Grosso – the source of Tippett’s glittering Fantasia Concertante that rounds off tonight’s performance.

*Gloucestershire Academy of Music Senior Strings perform this piece only.
