About Walk: Sharpness to Gloucester Canal

Gloucester and Sharpness Canal at Frampton on Severn

Gloucester and Sharpness Canal at Frampton on Severn

Join Gloucester Chair Allen Prior on his final public fundraising walk forming part of the challenge he has set himself to walk 150 miles for RVW150 to raise money in support of plans to celebrate the anniversary at the 2023 festival. Read a message from Allen about his walking challenge here.

We’ve saved the big one till last! There is good news:

  • The whole walk is flat (no hills!)
  • There are pubs en route, notably in Frampton-on-Severn
  • You can walk part of it or all of it. The canal is split by 16 swing bridges so you can walk a stretch between some of the bridges if the whole thing is too much

Allen has walked this stretch many times in fundraising efforts. The canal is one of the most tranquil places, but gets slightly livelier as you near Gloucester’s historic docks.

Appropriately, we will finish at Gloucester Cathedral, home of the 2023 Three Choirs Festival.

We ask all participants to read our general guidance before coming.
