About WCS | Divine Music for Trumpets and Voices

A photo of George Frederick Handel

This concert will take us directly into the world of grand baroque and was devised by Ben Hoffnung and David Blackadder. With actor Douggie McMeekin playing the part of the elderly Handel, we learn about the composer’s early childhood, his time spent as a young man in Germany, his love of Italy and his triumphant arrival in Georgian London, where he received the full endorsement of no less than three monarchs.

Featured performances of Divine Music for Trumpets and Voices to date have already included a special performance for the Lord Mayor at the Mansion House with previous concerts at the Cheltenham International Music Festival, Marlborough College Chapel attended by the former Duchess of Cornwall, St Martin in the Fields, and the Grosvenor Chapel, Mayfair, with the role of Handel having previously been played by Simon Russell Beale, Alex Jennings and Harry Enfield.
