2019 Festival Chorus Auditions

Exciting opportunity for local singers

The Three Choirs Festival is holding auditions for the Gloucester contingent of its Festival Chorus in September 2018. The longest running music festival in the world, it takes place from 27 July to 3 August 2019, featuring over 70 concerts, recitals, talks, workshops and exhibitions in Gloucester and the surrounding area.

The backbone of the festival’s flagship series of large-scale choral works, the Festival Chorus is made up of experienced amateur singers from throughout the country. The chorus rehearses in separate contingents in the festival’s three host cities of Gloucester, Worcester and Hereford twice a week from May to July, before coming together for joint rehearsals in Gloucester.

Singers should be aware that learning and rehearsing such a large amount of music to international performance standards in such a short timescale is a huge musical challenge and an enormous commitment, but also provides phenomenal rewards.

Singing in six evening concerts in the stunning setting of Gloucester Cathedral during the eight days of the festival, the Three Choirs Festival Chorus will perform some of the greatest choral works of the past centuries, and will gain the stimulating opportunity to work with leading exponents of British choral singing, such as eminent choral director Adrian Partington, and the Philharmonia Orchestra, the festival’s orchestra-in-residence since 2012.

Experienced amateur choral singers of all voice parts who are interested in auditioning should contact Barry Leach, Gloucester chorus manager, on barry.tcfglos@gmail.com.
