Fairy tales and folk songs are brought to life in this lively and skilful recital from award-winning pianist Misha Kaploukhii. Lithe, graceful, and incredibly intricate, Beethoven’s Sonata is beautiful and surprisingly modern in its musical twists and turns. Rachmaninov’s Études-Tableaux weave stories, images, and harmonies together to create vivid pictures in the mind, while Tippett’s sparkling Sonata draws inspiration from the Scottish tune Ca’ the yowes. This will also be your first chance to hear the work of new Festival Associate Composer Gavin Higgins, whose Urban Fairy Tales is a set of musical depictions of updated fairy-tale characters living in modern-day London. A brief in-conversation between Gavin and the Three Choirs Festival Chief Executive David Francis will introduce the piece.
