About Severn Meadows

A deeply personal performance of music and poetry exploring the life of Gloucestershire poet and composer Ivor Gurney and his friendship with Will Harvey and Herbert Howells. In their younger days before the First World War, the trio spent all the hours they could exploring the Gloucestershire countryside together. Gurney and Howells famously attended the premiere of Vaughan Williams’ Tallis Fantasia at the 1910 Three Choirs Festival. Their friendship survived the war and Gurney’s tragic incarceration in a mental asylum before his untimely death. Celebrated tenor James Gilchrist and pianist Anna Tilbrook perform songs by Gurney alongside readings of his poems in this beautiful and poignant concert.
