Three Choirs Cycle

On the Sunday of the Three Choirs Festival, members of Gloucester Cathedral Choir will cycle between the three cathedrals, from Gloucester to Worcester to Hereford and back home.

They're raising money for two amazing charities that are close to their hearts and any support you can give them will be most gratefully received! They intend to raise £1000 for Shine Cancer Support and Alzheimer’s Society.

One of the riders Matthew Keighley said “I am fortunate enough to have taken part in 4 festivals but cycling around all 3 Cathedrals in one day will be a first for me!

"My friend Rob Waters and I came up with the idea after cycling to Worcester and back last year for the first joint evensong of the festival. We both really enjoyed the ride and it was great to take in the landscape, travelling past Tewkesbury Abbey and along the River Severn. It’s quite flat to Worcester and I actually managed it on my single speed bike, however, I’ve had to borrow something with a few more gears for our latest challenge!

"Of course when the festival first started over 300 years ago the humble bicycle hadn’t even been invented! We can only imagine how the lay clerks from the past might have travelled between the 3 cathedrals. If the pain and struggle doesn’t consume my mind during the ride I hope I can reflect on this as we cycle through the three counties!”
