Andrew Reid was appointed Director of Music at Hereford Cathedral in April 2026. Previously he ran the music at Little St Mary’s, Cambridge, and undertook extensive teaching work. He was Managing Director of Harrison & Harrison from 2017-22, while the company was building and restoring organs for Canterbury Cathedral and York Minster, as well as new instruments for the Guards’ Chapel, London, and Christ Church, Greenwich CT. He served as Director of the Royal School of Church Music from 2012. As an undergraduate, Andrew was organ scholar of St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, before completing an MPhil degree at Robinson College. Whilst at Cambridge, he performed the complete organ works of J S Bach in one 25-hour recital, studying the organ with David Sanger and Peter Hurford. As Assistant Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral, he accompanied several acclaimed discs on the Hyperion label, and at Westminster Abbey he played the organ for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Andrew moved to Peterborough Cathedral as Director of Music in 2004, directing the choir in the 2008 Christmas Eucharists broadcast on BBC1, and in tours, recordings, concerts, and festivals in addition to daily services. He directed the Northampton Bach Choir from 2004 to 2007 and Peterborough Cathedral Festival Chorus thereafter, working with Orchestra da Camera, His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts, Charivari Agréable, and the Black Dyke Band. He has given organ recitals and directed choral courses on four continents, and in major UK venues.
