
Jess Norton Raybould

Jess Norton Raybould is an Oxford-based mezzo, conductor and producer. She read music at Durham University, holding choral scholarships at St John's and Castle Colleges. She completed her MA in 2023 alongside a scholarship at Durham Cathedral, receiving the Ramsay-Burn Award, College Scholarship, and Baxter Prize. Jess was the first female Director of Music at Hatfield College, and was awarded a Full Palatinate for Contribution to Music in 2022.
Jess is a lay clerk at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, having previously held a graduate scholarship with The Queen's College under Prof Owen Rees. She has performed alongside ensembles such as New Chamber Opera, Deitatis Consort, Bishop's Consort, Durham University Chamber Choir, Winchester Bach Voices, and the Northern Consort, and was the inaugural scholar with the Newbury Choral Society. Jess' solo highlights include the premiere of Jessica Curry's She Who and Anna Meredith's Five Telegrams with the National Youth Choir, Vivaldi's Nisi Dominus with the Dunelm Consort, and Bach's St John Passion with Durham Cathedral and the Avison Ensemble. Her recording work includes demos for BBC Film & TV commissions, as is featured on discs with The Queen's College, Castle Chapel Choir, Durham Cathedral and the National Youth Choir.
Alongside a freelance singing career, Jess is also an emerging producer, having assisted on recordings with the BBC Radio 3, BBC Ensembles, St John’s Chapel Choir, and the National Youth Choir. She is the artistic director of æftersang, an exciting ensemble of emerging early career artists that work to challenge perceptions of the canon, and increase the visibility of diverse repertoire.
