Composition Competition
Saturday 21 May 2022; 1.00–4.00 pm
Composers of all ages and levels of experience are invited
to submit a piece that:
- Is a setting of a short sacred text
- Has not been published or performed
- Is written for SATB choir
- Lasts no more than 4 minutes
The winning piece will be given its first performance by HCVC at the Three Choirs Festival, as the introit at Choral Evensong
on Sunday 24 July 2022
The competition judges will be:
- Thomas Lydon, Commissioning Editor of OUP;
- Cheryl Frances-Hoad, composer;
- Peter Dyke, Assistant Director of Music at Hereford Cathedral and director of the Voluntary Choir.
Up to five shortlisted pieces will be rehearsed and given a workshop performance during the event on 21 May, after which the judges will make their decision. Composers and guests are invited to the workshop, where refreshments will be available.
