On Tuesday 5 September (1.15pm), Peter Dyke will be performing a special organ concert to celebrate the life of Tim Symons.
Tim was a member of Hereford Cathedral’s music department for almost 25 years until he sadly died last September after a short illness. This concert, which will mark the first anniversary of his death, will feature a wide-ranging selection of music celebrating Tim’s passions and his work at the cathedral.
Alongside music by the great J S Bach performed on the Father Willis organ, Peter will play a Fantasia by William Byrd, another of Tim’s favourite composers, on the cathedral’s Kenneth Tickell chamber organ. In a nod to two of Tim’s other great interests, film and railway, Peter will also be playing a transcription of Richard Rodney Bennett’s music from the film Murder on the Orient Express.
Geraint Bowen, Director of Music at Hereford Cathedral, said: 'Tim was a highly-respected colleague firstly as a lay clerk in our cathedral choir for over fifteen years and then our liturgy and music administrator. He loved the cathedral and its music and is much missed by us all.
Everyone is very welcome to join us for this celebration of Tim’s distinguished contribution to the musical life of our cathedral.’
The concert will form part of the lunchtime organ concert programme which runs throughout the summer on Tuesdays at 1.15 pm. Admission is free with a retiring collection and large-screen video projection is available at all concerts.
