The festival has been privileged to enjoy royal patronage for almost two centuries, and our current Patron HRH The Prince of Wales has visited the festival in recent years. Simon Carpenter, the festival’s volunteer archivist, has put together the history of our royal connections.

The winning composer will receive the John Sanders Memorial Prize for Choral Composition of £1000, the possibility of a publishing contract with Encore Publications, and the winning composition will be considered for performance at an Evensong during the 2023 Three Choirs Festival.
