Over the years the Wheaton Municipal Band, under the direction of Dr. Bruce Moss, has performed numerous arrangements by Dr. Paul Noble, prolific transcriber who specializes in arranging classic orchestral and choral works for the modern wind band. An upcoming concert by the band will include the world premiere of his arrangement of Solemn Prelude, by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.
Founded in 1930 with only 19 musicians, the Wheaton Municipal Band, with the financial support of the City of Wheaton, Illinois, has grown into one of the finest organizations of its type in existence today.
Composed for the 1899 Worcester festival, Coleridge-Taylor's Solemn prelude was lost to history for over 120 years. In the 2021 Worcester festival, this piece was found by an archivist and revived by the Philharmonia Orchestra in an astounding concert in Worcester Cathedral. Since 2021, the Solemn Prelude has been performed across the globe, by ensembles such as the Hallé Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra and more.
The concert will take place on June 15 2023, at the Memorial Park, Wheaton, Illinois.
