Do you love singing and performing? Would you like the opportunity to perform onstage alongside a leading orchestra in a unique setting? If so, our Youth Choir might be just the thing for you!

Made up of keen singers aged 14-25 who join us from around the country, the choir sings in one of our flagship evening cathedral concerts during the festival, performing alongside world-renowned conductors and musicians. It is a fun and rewarding experience, and many of our Youth Choir members return again and again.

Rehearsals take place in the week leading up to the festival, after term finishes, and during festival week itself. It is expected that Youth Choir members will attend all of the rehearsals and the concert. If you would also like to join our volunteer team during the festival, gain some experience and take advantage of free standby concert tickets, this can be arranged around the rehearsal schedule.

This year, the Youth Choir will take centre stage in an evening concert in Hereford Cathedral on Thursday 28th July 2022. The concert will be conducted by Samuel Hudson, with members of the Philharmonia Orchestra. This year’s programme includes Judith Weir’s All the ends of the earth and 17th century composer Maria Xaveria Peruchona’s Cessate tympana, cessate praelia. The main piece in the programme will be a festival commission, Voices of Power, from Luke Styles, with a new libretto from singer and writer Jessica Walker. Luke’s music has been performed at many international festivals and includes works for dancers, circus performers, and silent-film scores, as well as operas which have been performed at Glyndebourne and the Royal Opera House.
