How to leave a legacy

Setting up a legacy gift for the Three Choirs Festival is very simple and we’re available to help. Here are the basics:

  1. State in your Will that you would like to leave a gift to us. We recommend using a solicitor or professional will-writer to make sure your Will is legal and valid.
  2. Include our full name, to make sure the money goes to the right place: The Three Choirs Festival Ltd, Registered Charity 204609.
  3. If you would like your gift to go towards a specific activity you may be able to add this into your Will.

If you have already written us into your Will, we’re very grateful and would love it if you could let us know by returning our legacy pledge form.

Codicil

If you already have a will and would like to add the Three Choirs Festival as a charity you wish to support, you may attach a written instruction called a codicil which must be signed in the presence of two witnesses who are not beneficiaries.

You may invalidate your will if you make these changes yourself, so it is important to seek professional advice before amending or changing your Will in any way.

The types of legacy you can leave:

Pecuniary Gift

A Pecuniary gift is a specific sum of money. The drawback of a pecuniary gift is that your preferences or financial circumstances may change and could require frequent amendments to your will. Example wording: ‘I give the sum of x pounds/euros/US dollars to The Three Choirs Festival Limited, whose registered address is 7c College Green, Gloucester GL1 2LX, Charity No. 204609’

Residuary Gift

A Residuary gift is a proportion of the remainder of your estate after specific gifts have been fulfilled. Even 1% of your estate can have a lasting impact on the festival’s work. This means that your loved ones are looked after, but that charitable causes are remembered as well. Example wording: ‘I give x % of the residue of my real and personal estate which I can dispose of by Will in any manner I think proper to The Three Choirs Festival Limited, whose registered address is 7c College Green, Gloucester GL1 2LX, Charity No. 204609’

Specific Gift

Many people choose to give a specific item, such as collections of memorabilia or even property. Example wording: ‘I give my (short description of item) free of inheritance tax to The Three Choirs Festival Limited, whose registered address is 7c College Green, Gloucester GL1 2LX, Charity No. 204609’

Reversionary gift

A reversionary gift involves setting up a Trust so that family members or other beneficiaries can enjoy the income during their lifetime, with all or a portion of the capital going to the Three Choirs Festival after their death, thus ensuring that a partner or dependent is financially supported and housed during their lifetime.

In Memoriam Gifts

This is a special way to remember someone who had a fondness for the festival, which can take the form of a dedicated donation, or may be given in lieu of flowers at memorial services and funerals.

How will my gift be allocated?

Gifts to the Three Choirs Festival Ltd will be held in the festival’s investment portfolio, administered by Canaccord Wealth (previously EFG Harris Allday). An unrestricted gift, the most helpful bequest, allows us to use your gift where it’s most needed; a designated (or restricted) gift can be allocated to a project or activity of your choice.

Your gift can remain anonymous, or you can join our Legacy Circle, a group of like-minded individuals, and benefit from a special programme of activities during your lifetime. In exchange you will benefit from an annual acknowledgement in the festival programme, a designated ‘legacy’ concert and reception during festival week, and regular updates from the festival’s CEO.

You are under no obligation to tell us, but if you have already arranged to leave a gift to the festival in your Will, please do let us know so that we can thank you and enrol you as a member of the Legacy Circle.

Thank you for considering leaving a legacy gift for the future of the Three Choirs Festival. If you would like our help, please contact Debbie Jagla and she will be very happy to talk you through what is a very straightforward process.
